GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is the raster graphic file format. GIF is the most compact format without loss of quality, but it’s limited to a color palette of 256 colors. In 1989, the format was modified to GIF89a which supports transparency and animation. GIF uses LZW compression, which allows use GIF with a lot of uniform fills (logos, inscriptions, diagrams).
