Image Vectorizer offers various options for preprocessing bitmaps before saving them to vector format. The processing assumes control of the following options: Maximum number of colors, Smoothness, Roundness, Noise Reduction and Stroke & Width.
- Maximum number of colors allows regulating a set of needed colors. Using this control, you can change any color and add or delete color if necessary.
- Smoothness allows producing a less pixelated image and improving the color transitions.
- Roundness contains borders circularity control. Smaller values produce sharper corners, larger values produce smoother corners.
- Noise Reduction uses to reduce noise and unliked spots in the image.
- Stroke & Width allows making contour image with selected stroke-width and color.
Why is Image Vectorization needed?
In a raster image, each object is represented by a pattern of pixels. Raster formats are suitable for photographs or pictures with color gradients. But one of their main disadvantages is the losing quality when scaling. Vector graphics allow you to scale images without losing quality and can sometimes significantly reduce their size. The best suited for the vector format are logos, icons, page layouts, maps, graphs, line arts, illustrations and more. Vector graphics are not the most suitable format for continuous-tone images with blends of color or editing photographs. However, vectorizing photos can result in impressive artistic effects that can be interesting and useful.
About Image Vectorization process
The vectorization process uses color image quantization. It is a process that reduces the number of different colors used in an image, with the intention that the new image should be as visually similar as possible to the original one. In our image vectorization process, color quantization plays a significant role because it reduces the number of used colors that significantly affect the size and quality of vectorized SVG. Then, the Vectorizer replaces all same colored spots or pixels with geometric shapes or curves using a set of contour tracing algorithms.
