Convert your .eml email files into editable .odt documents. The converter keeps the From, To, Cc, Subject and Date lines as a top‑level header block and embeds inline images at their original positions. External images are fetched with a 2‑second per‑image, 10‑second total timeout; images that fail to load are omitted.

Headers preserved as editable top‑level block

The converter reads the From, To, Cc, Subject and Date lines from the .eml file and writes them as regular paragraphs at the top of the ODT. This creates an editable header block that mirrors the original layout and can be moved, restyled or removed in any ODT‑compatible editor.

Because the header is stored as ordinary ODT text, it participates in search and selection. Users can locate a sender or date with the editor’s find function and copy or modify the header just like any other paragraph, keeping the email metadata fully accessible.

Rich text formatting retained in ODT

All HTML formatting in the email body—paragraph breaks, headings, bold, italic, underline, font colours, bulleted and numbered lists, tables and inline styles—is mapped to equivalent ODT styles during conversion. The visual layout of the original message is therefore preserved when the document is opened in LibreOffice Writer, Apache OpenOffice Writer or OnlyOffice Documents.

If the email contains only plain‑text, the converter outputs a single block of selectable, searchable text without extra styling. The text remains fully editable, so users can apply their own formatting after conversion while preserving the original message content.

Inline images embedded and external images fetched

Images embedded directly in the .eml file are baked into the resulting .odt at the exact positions where they appear in the email body. This makes the visuals part of the ODT file, eliminating external links.

For images referenced by external URLs, the converter tries to fetch each one while processing. Each image has up to 2 seconds to load and the total time budget for all external images is 10 seconds. Images that do not load in this window are omitted without placeholders, which works well for typical messages that contain only a few quickly reachable images.

Hyperlinks remain active

Web links (http/https) and mailto: links that appear in the email body are preserved as active hyperlinks in the ODT output. Both the visible link text and the target URL are retained, allowing readers to click through directly from the document.

Because the hyperlinks are stored using standard ODT hyperlink fields, they function across LibreOffice Writer, Apache OpenOffice Writer, OnlyOffice Documents and Microsoft Word, maintaining the interactivity of the original email.

Font handling and non‑Latin script support

During conversion the server applies its bundled font set to render the text, but the resulting ODT references fonts by name rather than embedding the font files. This keeps the file size small and avoids font licensing issues.

For CJK, Hebrew, Arabic and other non‑Latin scripts, the ODT depends on matching fonts installed on the user’s machine. When those fonts are present, characters render accurately; otherwise the editor falls back to its default fonts.

FAQ

Are the From, To, Cc, Subject and Date lines editable in the ODT file?

The converter writes From, To, Cc, Subject and Date as regular paragraphs at the top of the ODT, so they can be edited, moved or restyled in any ODT‑compatible editor.

How are inline and external images handled in the converted ODT?

Embedded images are baked into the ODT at their original spots. External images are fetched (up to 2 s each, 10 s total); any that don’t load are omitted without placeholders.

Do hyperlinks in the email remain clickable after conversion?

Web and mailto links are kept as standard ODT hyperlink fields, preserving both the visible text and the target URL, so they stay clickable in LibreOffice, OpenOffice, OnlyOffice and Word.

What are the upload limits for this converter?

You may upload up to 10 EML files per batch; each file must not exceed the size allowed for your account tier (anonymous users have the lowest cap, free accounts higher, and paid plans larger).

How long are the converted files available for download?

Download links stay active for 24 hours after conversion finishes, then they expire.
