Color Contrast Ratio

Color contrast ratio is a numerical measure of the difference in perceived brightness or brightness between two colors. It is commonly used in web design and accessibility to ensure that text and other content are readable against their background. WCAG determines two levels of contrast ratios depending on the level of success criteria: AA (minimum contrast) and AAA (enhanced contrast). Contrast ratios can range from 1 to 21.
- The levelAArequires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (at least 18pt) or bold text.
- The level AAA requires a ratio of at least 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text or bold text.

Since color is essential both for visual perception and for conveying meaning, it is imperative that all users be able to take content on a web page in different tones and paints. Color accessibility is required as it helps users, including people with visual impairments, correctly distinguish between content elements and read them effectively. A color contrast directly affects a person's susceptibility to web content.

The color contrast ratio is an essential aspect of text accessibility for everybody. Therefore, it is vital to give all users convenient, friendly, and accessible web content. You can check color contrast on the fly using our Color Contrast Checker!
